Unknown woman displays gun after seeing couple arguing in car: Shaker Heights police blotter

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — Weapon displayed: Warrensville Center Road

At 10:30 p.m. July 17, A Cleveland Heights man, 30, told police that he was arguing with his girlfriend, 26, of Cleveland Heights, as they sat in his parked car near 3370 Warrensville Center Road. As the two argued, the man reported, a woman he doesn’t know pulled up in a red Audi, displayed a firearm, and inquired as to whether his girlfriend was safe. The woman with the gun then drove off.

OVI: Lomond Boulevard

At 11:30 p.m. July 17, police were called to Lomond Boulevard and Latimore Road where a car had struck a tree. At the scene, police found that the car’s driver, a Shaker Heights man, 50, was intoxicated. The man had a blood alcohol content of .219, above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08.

Police charged the man with OVI and with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Suspicious package: South Park Boulevard

At 8:15 p.m. July 17, a Cleveland woman, 27, called police after seeing what she believed to be a grenade in Lower Lakes Park. Police secured the park and summoned a regional bomb unit, who took possession of, and disposed the object.

Auto theft: Canterbury Lane

At 7:50 a.m. July 18, a man, 44, reported that someone stole his unlocked Cadillac Escalade that had been parked overnight in his driveway. In addition, the thief rummaged through another unlocked vehicle parked on the man’s property.

Using OnStar, police were able to locate the Cadillac in the 2000 block of West 5th Street in Cleveland. Personal property, in the amount of $3,500, was missing from the vehicle.

OVI: Chagrin Boulevard

At 2:55 a.m. July 19, police found a Cleveland Heights woman, 29, asleep in her car, parked near Lee Road and Chagrin Boulevard. The woman smelled of alcohol and was later found to be intoxicated.

The woman had a blood-alcohol content of .125. She was arrested and charged with OVI.

Theft: Chagrin Boulevard

At 12:45 p.m. July 20, police arrested a Cleveland woman, 57, for concealing and stealing two racks of lamb, worth a total of $130.71, from Heinen’s grocery store, 16611 Chagrin Blvd.

Theft from auto: Menlo Road

At 12:45 p.m. July 20, a Shaker Heights woman, 68, reported the theft of her handgun. The gun was stolen from the woman’s unlocked car parked at her residence.

Auto theft: Van Aken Boulevard

At 11 a.m. July 21, a Shaker Heights woman, 80, reported that her car had been stolen from her residence during the previous nighttime hours. Using OnStar, police tracked the car to the 4000 block of East 144th Street in Cleveland.
