An arrest has been made after a Boston nurse’s vehicle was stolen from her driveway while she was sleeping.Molly MacKay, a nurse practitioner, has been working at the Boston Hope COVID-19 field hospital inside the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center during the coronavirus pandemic.MacKay said she parked her 2019 Mazda CX-5 at about 5 p.m. Saturday in the driveway of her home near the Neighborhood House Charter School in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood.She noticed that her vehicle was missing from the driveway at about 10 a.m. Sunday, and reported it stolen to the Boston Police Department just over an hour later.Police confirmed Monday that an arrest was made, identifying the suspect as 31-year-old Troy Handy, of Boston. The vehicle was found in the Grove Hall neighborhood of Roxbury, police said.MacKay said her N95 masks, respirators and other personal protective equipment were inside the vehicle when it was stolen. “You think at a time that we should be coming together, to think people are still doing things like this to each other is really disheartening; you feel really violated.” MacKay said. “This is a neighborhood and we know everyone around us, so for this to happen, it’s really hard to see.”MacKay believes the thief broke into her roommate’s vehicle first, where a spare key to MacKay’s vehicle was located. She thinks the thief then used that spare key to steal her car. Handy has been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and operating a vehicle after a license suspension.
