Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker said one of his main concerns about the legalization of marijuana in Michigan is how it will affect children.
A car, also going west, struck two of the horses.
Fender was taken to a hospital but later died. The rider of the second horse received minor injuries and did not require treatment.
Police said the driver of the car, a 22-year-old Byron Center woman, was not injured.
Deputies did not immediately give other details about the crash, but said an Allegan County sheriff’s crash reconstruction team was investigating.
